Windows 7…first look.

windows7

I’ve just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP…so far so good.  I’ve installed it on an IBM Thinkpad T43 series with 1GB of RAM.

The installation was as simple as can be.  It managed to find all but one device driver…”Winbond TPM 1.1/1.2 controllers”…which is used on IBM/Lenovo laptops to manage power.  I found it on Lenovo’s website, downloaded and installed it without any problems.  Other than that, everything installed very smoothly and the entire process took less than an hour.

I’ve found the boot up sequence to take about the same time as Windows XP.  Browsing WebPages with the native IE8 browser is faster and so is the RDP (Remote Desktop Connection) client.  Switching between applications takes a bit of getting use to but once I got the hang of it, it was definitely better than XP.  Mac OSX has new competition in this area.

I’ll report back in a couple of weeks for another show and tell on Windows7.
